Paris Ballet and dance would like to welcome Kristen Lenihan to the staff. She was born and raised in Long Island, New York. There she was under the careful direction of Sandra Jemal, formerly of Ballet Russes and a member of Dance Educators of America. She spent over a decade training at LIAD for ballet, tap, jazz, pointe, hip hop and modern with professionals such as Dexter Jones for tap and jazz (42nd Street and Riverdance) and Diana Schubert formerly of Paul Taylor for modern.

A MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR
The Florida Youth Dance Gala was outstanding last night! It was a great chance to watch other great schools throughout South Florida in truly good performances.
Our very own Gillian Yoder and Athena brought down the house with their performance of my specially choreographed creation Strauss Fantasy. It was clear they were an audience favorite! Needless to say, I am very proud of both of them.
It is important to remember superb performances like this don’t just “happen.” They are an absolute direct result of an individual student’s talent commitment, hard work, desire and dedication.
Thank you to all the Paris Ballet and Dance students who came out to watch and support their fellow schoolmates. This camaraderie and good friendship is wonderful. I was very happy to see them in the audience.
Seeing students from the schools of fellow and former Ballet Florida Company members and friends Rogelio and Lydia Corrales, Tina Martin and Heather Lescaille, and Deborah Marquez and Douglas Gawriljuk was extremely heartwarming! Congratulations to them for sharing their knowledge and experience of dance. Marie Hale and Ballet Florida has most certainly left a positive, long lasting and wonderful legacy.
Thank you Mauricio Cañete and congratulations to all the schools and dancers. It is a privilege to be part of such a great dance community and it is amazing to see that our common passion is beautifully shared.
Sincerely,
Jean-Hugues Feray
Founder and Director

CONGRATULATIONS
Xander Visker, who auditioned for Next Generation Ballet, Patel Conservatory Summer Intensive today, was awarded a 100% scholarship!
In a somewhat unorthodox way, Xander was told of his award immediately following audition, before actually leaving the building. It usually takes days to several weeks before a student is notified. He was also told by a representative of Patel Conservatory that they knew he would be getting many more offers from other Intensives, so they wanted to be one of the first to make their offer. It doesn't get better than a 100% scholarship!
Like Gillian Yoder, Xander began his training with Jean-Hugues Feray at Paris Ballet and Dance. Director Mr. Feray is extremely proud and excited for Xander and his accomplishments. He is yet another example of how a student's talent, commitment, hard work and dedication deserve the best training! Read more about Gillian Yoder below - January 11 and 12.
Today was also the Master Classes/Joffrey Ballet School Summer Intensive Auditions with Jo Matos. Both classes were full of eager students who take their dance training very seriously. Ms. Matos was very impressed with the student's training and their vocabulary, while specially commenting on their willingness to try and work so incredibly hard. She even mentioned to Mr. Feray how extremely neat and well mannered everyone was.
Xander Visker along with his brother Riley Visker, also attended The Joffrey Ballet School's Summer Intensive for the past two summers.

• Master Classes are important for any dance student. They bring to students the incredible knowledge of other great teachers and dance educators. Master Classes reinforce the great training a student already receives while they have the opportunity to hear experiences from other professionals in the dance world!
• A student's technique and personal outlook grows.
• Master Classes are fun while being educational on many levels.
• Participation in such classes (and various/certain Summer Programs) can influence casting decisions for performances.

And the good news keeps coming for Gillian Yoder! Besides being a top finalist at Youth America Grand Prix and her going on to the Finals, Gillian has been offered a 75% scholarship to the Summer Intensive Program at Next Generation Ballet, Patel Conservatory in Tampa, Florida.
This morning, an email letter was sent to Mr. Feray from Patel Conservatory. It explained the good news saying Gillian was chosen due to "...her technical level and her potential for Classical Ballet."
This is an example of the most important thing about Youth America Grand Prix. It offers students an incredible opportunity to be seen by the best schools in the world at one time. There is also a long list of students who have been directly picked from Grand Prix competition to join many national and internationally known dance companies. During her experiences at Youth America Grand Prix, Gillian had been asked several times where she receives her training.
Yes, Gillian is very talented. However, every dance student must be ingrained with real talent is just a portion of success. At eleven years old, Gillian has attributes that every student who wishes to dance while constantly improving -- must have. She has a strong work ethic along with an incredible sense of commitment and dedication. She listens to and applies all corrections. With her desire to dance, she attends all and extra classes. She tries hard to perform in every class as if they were actual performances. She is present at and "performs" in all rehearsals as if they were live shows. She has a great attitude and outlook, and is always pleasant to be around. Again, these are ALL attributes for any dance student who wishes to excel!

CONGRATULATIONS
Eleven year old Paris Ballet and Dance student Gillian Yoder has been awarded Second in her division at Youth America Grand Prix. She performed a variation from La Fille mal Gardee.
In addition, with this "win," she also has gained the privilege by invitation to participate in the FINALS in New Your City
Dance students from ages of nine to nineteen literally come from all over the world to participate in this, the largest and one of the most prestigious international dance competitions. In the ballet world, only the highest quality trained and talented dancers are fit to participate, yet alone win. This competition can be tough and grueling. So, needless to say, Gillian's award is such an incredible accomplishment and honor.
Congratulations also goes to Paris Ballet Founder and Director Jean-Hugues Feray. His experience, knowledge and hard work with Gillian (and all his students) has shown that a student's talent, commitment, hard work and dedication deserve the best training!
Mr. Feray and everyone at Paris Ballet and Dance are extremely overjoyed and excited with young Gillian's huge accomplishment today (and always). The future awaits with open arms!

It was a jammed-packed weekend of dance.
On Saturday, it was inspiring to see every single person who auditioned for The Nutcracker. They danced their hearts out. The director and all the judges were happy watching all of them. It made their jobs difficult.
These auditions are a very important part of the learning process in dance. Luckily, Paris Ballet and Dance auditions their own students for various roles in shows. It allows students within the school to show the director and judges how hard they want something. It also pulls from their inner-selves some things even they might know that had “hidden.”
These intra-school auditions can be mentally and emotionally hard because it also teaches students AND their parents even though they may want a role, they may not be ready or necessarily suited for it. They also prepare students for how to audition for National summer intensives and later on, for companies.
It's almost ashamed there can't be 20 shows with 20 casts. They were all winners!

The Sunday Master Class with Matthew Prescott from the Joffrey Ballet School was awesome! It was a two hour class packed fierce movement, and incredible theory, as well. It was nice to see the students do so well while getting out of their comfort zone. There was a great energy in the room. It was also great to see how strong based ballet training is the main tool for both contemporary dance and jazz.
Some students tend to get a little confused as to what they need. Television panders to what their viewers want to see. Students also begin to think there is “instant” success without the really hard work, dedication, and going through all the processes which goes into being a good and well-rounded dancer. Again, Mr. Prescott's class was great, for it stressed using your ballet training while expanding your mind for contemporary works.
As Mr Prescott said, "success is in the effort!"

Students in the Advanced Level at Paris Ballet and Dance had the privilege to have been taught by Tracy Mozingo. Mr. Mozingo is a very well-know and respected teacher in South Florida.
Mr. Mozingo graduated from The University of North Carolina School of the Arts, and trained at Pacific North West Ballet and Houston Ballet before joining Houston Ballet Company, where he performed a diverse repertoire for four years.
He then joined Ballet Florida where he was a principal dancer for seventeen years. He loved the innovative new work, wide range of choreographers, and the extraordinary group of dancers that he has performed with throughout his career. He has particularly enjoyed performing principal works by: Vicente Nebrada, Peter Martins, Sean Lavery, Mauricio Wainrot, Danny Ezralow, Mark Godden, William Soleau, Norbert Vesak, Lar Lubovitch, Val Caniparoli, Alvin Ailey, Twyla Tharp, Kenneth McMillan, Glen Tetley, Thierry Mandalain, Michael Smuim, John Butler, Lou Conte, Daniel Pelzig, Trey McIntyre, Jimmy Gaminet, George Balanchine, William Forsythe, Sir Frederick Ashton, and Ben Stevenson. among others.
It was really great to have him in the studio before he joins his family in Spain in a few weeks!

As we start the new school year, there are many new and wonderful things to announce and things to talk about.
Since there are so many boys who are now in the school, Paris Ballet and Dance is very pleased to announce the new Boys/Mens Class. The boys class will be on Saturday mornings from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM for levels 7, 8 , 9 and Conservatory. Please note, this doesn't change the regular Saturday schedule for any classes.
We are pleased to announce that Miss Risselle Portuondo has joined the staff of Paris Ballet Dance. Miss Portuondo was trained at the Academy of Ballet Florida. While at the Academy, Mr. Feray was actually one of her teachers. She also received training from Joan Miller's Palm Beach Ballet Center with Lorena Jimenez and Tracy Mozingo, and received special private classes and coaching from Kurt Putzig (Former Principal Dancer with Louisville Ballet, Milwaukee Ballet and Houston Ballet), and Yuemelia Garcia (Formerly with the National Ballet of Caracas, Ohio Ballet, and danced principal roles with Ballet Florida before becoming a principal dancer with The Joffrey Ballet).
Ms. Portuondo is a graduate, with honors, from the prestigious Boston Conservatory. Her abilities to teach Contemporary, Tap and Jazz for all levels are inspiring. She has a high and unique energy, talent and kindness. She also has very innovative choreographic ideas and skills. Since she was a little girl, she has always had a mad-passion for self-improvement! Miss Portuondo's professionalism will be a huge asset to Paris Ballet & Dance.
Welcome to Jennifer Cole, former dancer with Ballet Florida. During her long career as a professional, Ms. Cole danced many works by leading choreographers. She has also performed principal roles such as Titania in, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Swanilda in Coppelia, and Sugar Plum Fairy, Snow Queen and even Clara in The Nutcracker. Ms. Cole has taught at Ballet Florida and at Joan Miller's Palm Beach Ballet Center. At Paris Ballet and Dance, she will be teaching many levels including adults. Here's an interesting fact. While dancing with Ballet Florida, Ms. Cole never missed a day of work!
Remember the first Master Class as part of our affiliation with The Joffrey Ballet School Outreach and Collaboration Program is Master Class September 7. The teacher is the incredible jazz/contemporary class will be taught by Matthew Prescott.
Paris Ballet and Dance bids au revoir to long-time teacher Toni MacPherson. Ms. McPherson has been with the school since the beginning. Everyone truly has loved working with and being taught by her. Ms. Toni has decided to change her career pattern at this time with a new opportunity. Though this is bittersweet, Paris Ballet and Dance will miss her and wishes her good luck on your new endeavors.
Mr. Feray has been involved in the dance world since a young child. As a renowned former professional dancer, and as a teacher, his reach extends globally. Thanks to Mr. Feray's relations in the dance world, Paris Ballet and Dance is pleased to announce the school will be having guest teachers from both Bak and Dreyfoos School of the Arts. The school will also be hosting other amazing artists. Mr. Feray and his incredible staff are looking forward to enhancing students education in the art of dance.
The year keeps getting better!

The other day, Director Jean-Hugues Feray had the honor of having lunch with his former and legendary boss, Marie Hale. Ms. Hale was the director of Ballet Florida which, during it's time, was one of the most innovative companies in the country, and most certainly Florida! During its years, the Company toured to over half the United States. It was also invited TWICE to perform at the International Dance Festival in Biarritz, France! Marie Hale's The Nutcracker was the benchmark of productions its kind.
Ballet Florida dancers including Mr. Feray, performed works by some of the world's most respected and leading choreographers including: George Balanchine, Val Caniparoli, Sean Lavery, Lar Lubovitch, Thierry Malandain, Trey McIntyre, Peter Martins, Vicente Nebrada, David Parsons, Jerome Robbins, Ben Stevenson and Mauricio Wainrot -- just to name a few!
Though Mr. Feray has danced with truly incredible European companies all over the world, it is believed he holds working with Ms. Hale closest to his heart!

It's the middle of Summer. It has been wonderful to hear from students who have been attending the many renowned summer courses throughout the country. As they share their experiences, it is nice to be affirmed of the great training they received at Paris Ballet and Dance.
While on his vacation to visit some good friends in Chicago, Mr. Feray just happened to be there at the same time as The Joffrey Summer Intensive show. He was able to see Zander Visker perform and meet with his family.
